The short version

RefSorted is a marketplace that connects football teams and referees. Teams and referees remain responsible for fixture checks, conduct and direct payment. RefSorted does not hold match fees.

Operator: RefSorted, a sole-trader service operated in England.

These terms apply when you create an account, post or claim a fixture, or otherwise use RefSorted.

1. What RefSorted does

RefSorted provides tools for teams to publish referee opportunities and for referees to find and claim them. It helps participants share fixture details, eligibility status and confirmed match-contact information.

RefSorted is not a County FA, competition authority, referee appointment authority, employer, employment agency, insurer or payment provider. A booking does not replace any registration, safeguarding, disciplinary, reporting or appointment process required by The FA, a County FA, a league or another governing body.

2. Accounts and eligibility

  • You must give accurate information and keep your email and match-contact details secure and current.
  • Referee accounts are available from age 14. Organiser accounts require age 18 or over.
  • A referee aged 14 to 17 needs a parent or guardian to provide a valid phone number and confirm their email before the referee can apply.
  • A referee may apply without reviewed current-season FA evidence. A team may explicitly allow an eligible adult referee without reviewed evidence to confirm an open-age fixture automatically. Applications and bookings state whether FA evidence was uploaded or reviewed. The evidence comes from the referee and RefSorted does not independently authenticate it, so the team remains responsible for reviewing it and checking suitability.
  • You must not misrepresent a qualification, identity, team, league, authority or fixture.

A guardian email code confirms control of that email and consent to the account. It is not proof of identity or parental responsibility. Youth fixtures never confirm automatically: the posting team must review and approve every application, while RefSorted continues to enforce age, guardian, availability, travel, known-level and booking-clash checks.

3. Listings and bookings

The posting team is responsible for the accuracy of the date, kick-off time, venue, age group, format, competition, fee, eligibility requirements and booking approval choice. A referee must review those details before claiming or applying.

For open-age fixtures, a team may allow eligible referees to confirm automatically or require an application. Youth fixtures always require the posting team to approve an application. An application does not reserve the fixture and does not release either participant's contact details.

A confirmed booking creates a direct arrangement between the posting team and referee. Each participant must confirm final instructions, complete governing-body checks and communicate material changes or cancellation promptly.

We may remove duplicate, unlawful, misleading, unsafe or expired listings. We do not guarantee that a listing will receive a claim, that a claimant will attend, or that a fixture will proceed.

4. Match fees and direct settlement

  • Zero platform fee: RefSorted charges £0.00 during the pilot.
  • Direct settlement: the team and referee agree and settle the stated match fee directly outside RefSorted.
  • No escrow or payment guarantee: RefSorted does not collect, process, hold, escrow or guarantee match-fee payments.

Any tax, expense, refund or payment dispute is between the team and referee, although RefSorted may help them exchange relevant booking information.

5. Confirmed contact details

Match-contact details are released only after a booking is confirmed and only to the participants and authorised RefSorted operators. For an under-18 referee, the team receives the approved parent or guardian contact rather than a child phone number.

Use those details only to organise the relevant fixture. Do not add someone to marketing lists, publish their details, or use them for unrelated contact.

6. Cancellations, conduct and safeguarding

Participants must communicate cancellations and changes promptly. Abusive, discriminatory, threatening, fraudulent or unsafe conduct is prohibited.

Misconduct, abandonment, emergencies and safeguarding concerns must be reported through the appropriate County FA, league, police or statutory channel where required. A RefSorted message is not a substitute for an official or emergency report.

Email support@refsorted.co.uk about a RefSorted safeguarding concern. Call 999 where someone is in immediate danger.

7. Availability and changes

We aim to keep RefSorted available and accurate, but the pilot may be changed, suspended or withdrawn. We may update these terms when the service changes and will communicate material changes where appropriate.

8. Responsibility and liability

RefSorted provides a marketplace and coordination service. Teams, referees, leagues and governing bodies remain responsible for their own decisions, checks, conduct, fixtures and direct payments.

We do not promise that every user, credential, listing or venue detail is accurate, current or suitable. Nothing excludes liability where the law does not allow it, including liability for fraud, fraudulent misrepresentation, or death or personal injury caused by negligence. Subject to those protections, RefSorted is not responsible for indirect or unforeseeable losses, lost profit, loss of opportunity, or a participant's failure to attend, pay or comply with football rules.

9. Ending access

You may stop using the service and request account deletion by emailing support@refsorted.co.uk. We may restrict or close access for serious or repeated breach, fraud, safety risk, unlawful use or misuse of personal information.

10. Law and contact

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. The courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction, subject to any mandatory consumer rights that apply.

Questions can be sent to support@refsorted.co.uk. Formal postal correspondence details are available from that address; a private residential address is not published on this website.
